MORRISTOWN, NEW JERSEY (November 30, 2020) — The Great Swamp Watershed Association (GSWA) announced today that they have created a diverse recipe book of their favorite meals, desserts, drinks, and more that have been tried and tested during the quarantine. GSWA staff members, volunteers, supporters, and some surprise contributors have all submitted some of their favorite recipes that are now available to the public in this unique cookbook.
“We cooked up this idea early in the pandemic,” stated Hazel England, GSWA Director of Education and Outreach, Land Steward. “While working from home, we set up a ‘water cooler’ text chat to share the non-work aspects of our lives which was primarily pictures of what we were eating. At some point we thought, ‘this food is too good to keep to ourselves; we should share our recipes in a cookbook!’”
The book contains over 65 recipes with photos and clear instructions from 26 contributors, including something from 11th district Congresswoman, Mikie Sherrill. Most recipes offer lockdown-friendly substitutions for using on hand ingredients to make cooking easier. Also contained in this beautifully crafted book are photos and facts about the Passaic River from its source in Mendham to Newark Bay.
“We are so excited to share our delicious creations with everyone,” said Ms. England. “With recipes like chocolate chip espresso cookies, pumpkin gnocchi, vegan chocolate cake, and much more, this cookbook offers great new ideas to satisfy everyone’s tastes. Boardwalk Plank Engraving – GSWA staff and volunteers have constructed boardwalks over many of the CMA trails to help keep visitors’ feet dry while hiking through the swamp. Purchasing a boardwalk plank is an opportunity to engrave a sentiment, up to 22 characters, that will become a part of the CMA boardwalk trail system for all who visit to see. Adopt a Bench – Benches located throughout the CMA offer a place to rest and breathe in nature’s sights and sounds. Adopting a bench provides an additional relaxing spot along the property’s trails and includes an engraved plaque, up to 10 words, affixed to the bench. Guaranteed for five years. Price: $1,000.
