MORRISTOWN, NJ – The Great Swamp Watershed Association (GSWA) announced the success of their annual Gala Celebration and Silent Auction held on October 5, 2023. The event took place once again at the Brooklake Country Club in Florham Park, New Jersey, where attendees were treated to an evening of meaningful experiences.
“This was a special and enjoyable Gala for me personally,” stated Sally Rubin, GSWA Executive Director. “Based on feedback we received, our guests felt the same way! It was an evening of thoughtful conversation about the environment, paying tribute to a beloved friend and GSWA supporter, a robust silent auction, and making some magic.”
VIP ticket purchasers enjoyed an outdoor cocktail hour with passed hors d’oeuvres on the venue’s patio prior to the official start of the Gala. Professional magician, comedian, and mentalist, Simon Mandal, entertained guests with up-close magic and captivating illusions throughout the evening.
Keynote speaker, Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) engaged the audience, emphasizing the importance of protecting New Jersey’s resources and highlighted GSWA’s efforts and goals.
Family and friends of John J. DeLaney, Jr., the former mayor of Morristown and a dedicated GSWA supporter, were honored with a touching tribute led by Sally Rubin. Rubin, dressed in clothing that reflected his personality, shared personal memories and stories of his commitment to the organization’s work as images of his life-moments were displayed in the background.
Also in attendance, Senator Anthony M. Bucco (NJ’s 25th Legislative District) and Assemblywoman Aura K. Dunn, (NJ’s 25th Legislative District) presented the DeLaney family with a memorial proclamation.
With 200 items up for bid at the organizations popular silent auction, it was their largest and most profitable to date. Items included gift cards, sporting events, home decor, vacation homes and more.
