Late Fall Hike at Jockey Hollow

Before the holiday rush begins, c'mon on out and join GSWA staff member Adam Palmer for an informative and fun "nature" hike through Jockey Hollow. Feel the leaves crunch under your feet and breathe in the fresh autumn air as we walk the trails. While people of all ages are welcome, we encourage our younger members and non-members to come out and meet other people and peers interested in the environment and learn some cool facts about the area! Register today and come find out what cool critters and plants we can stir up! (Limit: 8 people)

GSWA's Adam Palmer will take you on a tour of our Conservation Management Area at our annual post-Thanksgiving hike. Come see the forest critters as they prepare for winter, and check out the amazing ecological renovations that have taken place here in the last several weeks. Staff and volunteers have also been busy adding more boardwalks so it's even easier to navigate our many trails. So, come take advantage of this break between holidays with a taste of nature. Your mind, body, and soul will thank you for it! Limit: 8 people.

Due to the increase in COVID-19 cases in New Jersey, we have cancelled this event.   Kids feeling crafty? We’ve got the solution - 3 nature-themed DIY projects for your child to keep or give away: 1) Hanging pinecone suet birdfeeder; 2) Decorated muslin produce and/or gift bag for use at the grocery store or as a gift bag; 3) Easy-make pollinator box (no sawing) to attract native bees to your yard. Brown paper will be on-hand to wrap the gifts. Hot chocolate and snacks available for the children. GSWA members $20, non-members $25. Price covers everything you need to leave with 3 finished pieces. While it’s a difficult time to shop, this outdoor crafting event offers a safe, socially distant opportunity for your child to get creative with wild-life friendly, natural items. Ideal for ages 6-12 - a parent or guardian must be present.  (Limit: 6 people)

Hedden County Park Use Hawthorne Ave Parking off of Reservoir Ave., Randolph, NJ, United States

SORRY, THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT. Looking to get your blood pumping? Join us for an intermediate, winter nature hike through Hedden Park, a beautiful piece of the Morris County Park Commission. Partially paved recreation trails traverse the Wallace Brook and cross Jackson Brook on this challenging hike. We will check out Indian Falls, a scenic point of interest along the Green Trail, and take in the natural beauty of the park. This family-friendly hike is perfect for people of all ages. If you like, bring along a snack and some water in a reusable bottle. Space is limited/registration is required. Rolling Knolls landfill is an approximately 200-acre site located in the Green Village section of Chatham Township (35 Britten Rd., Green Village, NJ) which was used as an unlined landfill from the early 1930s through 1968.  During its use, it received municipal solid waste, construction and demolition debris.  According to the Chatham Board of Health, waste included: tree stumps, scrap metal, tires, household refuse, residential septage waste, and industrial waste.  Herbicides and pesticides were used to control weeds, insects and […]
