The GSWA Water Quality Report Card is on the Great Swamp watershed and the Passaic River region. The Great Swamp Watershed Association (GSWA) conducts stream monitoring at 21 locations annually for a suite of chemical parameters. GSWA Water Quality Director, Sandra LaVigne, highlights the results of the sampling and testing we performed on our local streams throughout 2021. Sandra will provides an update on testing for PFAS (polyfluoroalkyl substances) manmade chemicals also called “forever chemicals.” PFAS is a growing threat to waters.
GSWA is the only entity, non-profit, corporate, or government, monitoring the five main streams of the Great Swamp Watershed and Passaic River on a consistent basis.
The EPA has issued a new Drinking Water Health Advisory for PFAS. GSWA is currently reviewing the information as we prepare to collect PFAS samples from ground water in our area. Below please find links to the EPA Advisory, NJDEP PFAS page as well as some other helpful information.
As the Trail Supervisors for Jockey Hollow we do what we can to preserve this C-1 Stream, but we have noticed a fluctuation in the reported Bacteria Levels of Primrose Brook……is there anything we can do to increase this level, although we have seen an improvement since 2018. Is this sustainable or only subject to weather conditions ?
Will there be a written Water Quality Report Card since the 2018 edition ?
